The Rothbury Practice is one of two sites. The larger Rothbury surgery is based in the centre of Rothbury, while the smaller branch surgery is at Longframlington. Both surgeries have facilities for the disabled.  We also run clinics at Harbottle Surgery and the Rothbury Community Hospital and this is ‘home’ to our District Nursing Team and Community Paramedics.

We can trace our practice history back 90 years and proudly continue to offer high standards of family health care to the population of Rothbury, Longframlington and the surrounding areas.

Telephone Access

Patients can speak to a receptionist between 8:00am – 6:30pm Monday-Thursday, and 8:00am – 5:00pm on Friday, in Rothbury on 01669 620339. Longframlington patients are encouraged to ring the Longframlington surgery on 01665 570311, calls are transferred through automatically if you ring outside of surgery hours. Patients are able to request a telephone call from a doctor, please contact the surgery reception to arrange this.

Routine Appointments

You can book an appointment with a doctor at;

Rothbury Surgery – Monday to Friday 8:00am to 6:30pm with a late night every third Thursday to 7:30pm.

Longframlington Surgery – Monday 9:00am to 12:00noon, Tuesday 8:30am to 12:00noon, Wednesday 3:00pm to 5:30pm, Thursday 9:30am to 12:00noon and Friday 8:30am to 12:00noon.

Harbottle Surgery – Tuesday 9:00am to 11:00am and Thursday 9:30am to 11:30am.

Rothbury Community Hospital – Wednesday AM between 7:30am and 8:00am.

At all times you should indicate the degree of urgency. It is expected that patients attend for appointments in good time. If you are unable to keep your appointment please inform reception in advance.

When booking an appointment you will always be asked for a reason, this information is asked for in advance by the GP’s in the practice.

Patients can express a preference of doctor and every effort will be made to allow patients to see their preferred doctor, although this may not always be possible or you may have to wait longer for your appointment.

Home Visits

Visits are available for those who are housebound and are unable to leave their homes due to their medical condition. Please give us some idea of the urgency of your problem so we can plan our visits efficiently.

Urgent Appointments

‘URGENT’ – A MEDICAL CONDITION THAT WILL DETERIORATE WITHIN 24 HOURS.

Arrangements for same day access

We are changing our appointment system for same day access and introducing a duty doctor telephone triage system during surgery hours.

The system will work in the following way:

  •  The telephone triage will be used when a patient requests urgent assistance for the same day.
  •  Patients requesting an urgent appointment will be assigned to the triage doctor for a call back. The receptionist will take some details requested by doctor.
  •  The triage doctor will normally telephone the patient within 2 hours, unless the problem is urgent, and will negotiate the appropriate next step.

If, after speaking with the patient, the doctor thinks you need to come into the surgery, they will make an appointment for you.

Sick Notes

You only need a doctor’s note if you are unable to work and are ill for longer than seven calendar days. If you need a doctors sick note, please contact the surgery on 01669 620339 and the receptionist will organise a telephone consultation.

A SC2 self-certificate form for shorter periods of illness is available to pick up from the surgery,collect one from your employer or download here.

Test Results

Please be sure to contact the practice to check your results after blood tests, urine tests, x-rays and ECGs. Receptionists can inform you of results (at the doctor’s direction) but cannot discuss or interpret your results. To ensure confidentiality, we only release results to the patient, unless alternative arrangements have been agreed.

Out of Hours Service

An out of hours service is not provided by the practice. For an out of hours service, ring the surgery number 01669 620339 and you will be given the telephone number for NHS 111, alternatively you can ring the Out of Hours Service direct on 111.

Repeat Prescriptions

Please allow 48 hours notice from your request.

For further supplies of regular medication please order online here – ask at reception for your unique log in details. Alternatively you can call into the surgery and place your request slip in the box located in the porch or telephone the surgery on 01669 620339 strictly after 11:00am as prescriptions will not be taken before 11:00am.

We usually send prescriptions to Rothbury Pharmacy and they can be collected 48 hours later. Please let us know if you would like to collect your prescription from the surgery.

As a service for their customers, the pharmacy delivers prescriptions to David Carr’s shop in Longframlington or home delivery can be arranged with the Pharmacy. Their telephone number is 01669 620308.
